Who Am I?
Really, I want to know who the hell I am. I turn 78 this Fall and I am fairly sure that, although I have met myself a few times in the past, I am not the person I could have been. (Blaring horns, guffaws, cat calls and whistles, probably steam) . I still love steam locomotives! The Union Pacific Big Boy 4-8-8-4. Now that was a hell of an engine! This comes from my childhood and my love for model railroads and the fact that I saw a few steam engines working regular jobs back in the early 1950s. Different times than now to be sure. Slower and one hell of a lot less “information!” Information, what a crock! We need less information not more when you begin measuring the capacity of the human brain versus all of the history of mankind.
We keep doing the same stupid things over and over but calling them new and quite cool names. Modern names like-COMPUTERS! What good are computers? Did they make students brighter? Have they improved our pitiful lives appreciably? Are they helping us go into deep space? They can’t even tell us why we can’t fix what we have here much less go into deep space. Which way is deep space anyhow? Left? Right? Up? Down? Does space matter if we can’t even breathe out there? I kind of considered that we had a nice planet right here that we could spend some “space” money to fix up after we’ve blown so many holes in our nice little planet.
I guess I am just to old and stupid to figure all of this out, eh? Well, 78 comes to me for free this month. No charge for an extra year to muddle once again through and fix the stupid things I’ve thought and done the past 77 years. Hence, Xog Pi, 3.14. Who cares any longer what Pi is. It was fun to have as a wildcard in college algebraic equations though. Mine always came out cinnamon and apple with fresh, buttery dough. A dollop of home made vanilla for the ala mode part.
You will eventually find out that you will be thinking the same things once you settle down and understand how short your time actually is. Be dumb as long as you can because reality kills.
