I Don’t Know Much
I am now and always have been ready to admit that I don’t know much. College only made this more concrete as what science taught me back then has, to a small degree, needed to be abridged or taken back entirely. Then I go look up into the night sky. I know a number of the constellations from astronomy 101 but have forgotten more than I ever knew about the mathematics of all those bright lights hanging out in space . . . somehow or other?
I sailed on the Pacific and Indian Oceans from the Sea of Japan to the Antarctic Sea and all the seas in between. U.S. Navy before I went back to college but after fighting the Vietnam war. How much do I know about what lives in the oceans? Only 1 + 1=2 of all there is to know. I admit all of this freely and not under duress. I am merely taking stock of who I am, how long I have left to live, and how stupid I have been during my seventy-eight years.
What I did get to know, and know as well as possible, is to understand, know, and love God. Now that seems like a reach to some doesn’t it? Yes? No? It depends doesn’t it on how much you think you know that you know nothing about. It would be nice to be an expert wouldn’t it? Expert on what is the question. I am an expert at cutting glass into all shapes and sizes from huge to picture frame to circles and parabolas of room size. I did that for many years after college because I owned a glass business.
You never know who you’re going to meet on the internet do you?
