The Grand Scheme
We don’t get much of a look at the “grand scheme,” do we. Our looks of, or into, it can be equated to staring at the landscape out of a plane window at 30,000 ft. Somewhere, outside of our ability to see it, in total, is the rest of the earth; or, so we’ve been told. If we can’t see it we can’t verify it is there. We can, however, surmise that it is there. The “Grand Surmise” is then what we take for granted but can never actually place a finger on it. A simple dish of chocolate ice cream on the table in front of us becomes the Grand Scheme and the factory our ice cream supposedly came from the Grand Surmise. We can point to one but only speak of the other. It gets complicated which is why this world has probably learned more than it should have. More than we were meant to know.
Then, along came space exploration and, for the first time, we got to see our planet as complete as two eyes staring at a photo can wish for. Not so the “Grand Scheme,” however. Nope, the G.S. is outside our purview as sure as Aunt Molly had a drinking problem. Saturday night bridge games at Molly’s got rather out of hand, looking back. But, I digress.
The G.S. would take special dispensation to see and fully understand. All science can give us is pieces as those pieces are discovered. Of course, with each discovery there is the obligatory champagne cork and wonderful nibbles on toothpicks. Kind of a let down if we understood the G.S. Nibbles on tooth picks is not what the G.S., if we really understood it, would warrant. An interstellar party would be more fitting but we would first have to understand the small part of the G.S. that we now understand not to mention finding life elsewhere finally and then figuring out how to integrate their banking system into ours.
This is all why God limited us to the struggle for knowledge instead of giving us a bookshelf full of encyclopedias answering just exactly what the grand Scheme is and how best to utilize it for our purposes rather than His. This answers a lot of questions just by following the pronouns doesn’t it?
Then, well, there are the tendrils that link, we think, one universal element to the other. Is a tendril actually a tendril if we cannot see it in the first place but only surmise it to be in existence? Ahh, I see, it is the mathematics that tell us it has to be there. Could have fooled me.
